Notes : Gideon enlisted for the Civil War fromTalladega Co., Alabama on 6 Sept 1861 and listed his age at that time as 38.. A muster roll of the same date at Camp Johnston lists him as Gideon Bell Mouncus, Private. Private Moncus served with Company I,
15th Alabama Infantry Regiment. From George Ryan Munkus: Relatives in Randolph Co., AL say that at least one of the original brothers-Gideon Bell "Gid" Moncus went west with a herd of horses. His family settled somewhere in the southwest,
believed to be Tucumcari, NM. From May Moncus Jones: Gideon was chopping wood in his own yard when he was shot by some snipers. At this time Cinderella was an infant, so the shooting occurred probably between 1868-1870. Sophronia was a widow
in th 1870 census. His son Benjamin went by train to Texas when he was about 17 (1877-78). Sophronia followed next with her family by wagon. A little later, Gideon's oldest son William followed with his wife and three small children.
